José was selected for the inaugural class of the Faculty Scholars Program, run jointly by the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, the Simons Foundation and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to support early-career scientists pursuing ambitious research. The award supported the lab’s work on how roots perceive and respond to the distribution of water in soil.
